How DT Solution Embedded P6 Schedule Management at Sungdong Shipbuilding

Schedule management succeeds or fails not on the tool but on whether the field links plan and actuals with it every day. DT Solution didn't stop at supplying Primavera P6 to Sungdong Shipbuilding — it followed through with training so the field could operate it directly.
The Challenge — A Tool Without Uptake
P6 is effectively the standard for schedule management, but a license alone delivers nothing. When the baseline and field actuals drift apart, the schedule is drawn once at kickoff and forgotten. The more complex and lengthy the process — as in shipbuilding — the more it hinges on the field's own capacity to update and manage the schedule.
What We Did — Supply + Training
DT Solution supplied Oracle Primavera P6 licenses to Sungdong Shipbuilding and delivered foundational and advanced training. Rather than just handing over the tool, the emphasis was on transferring the operating capacity so field staff could handle schedule, resources and actuals themselves on a critical-path (CPM) basis.
What we did
- Supplied a standard schedule-management tool (P6) to the shipyard
- Built field operating capacity through two-tier training (foundational + advanced)
- Taught handling of schedule, resources and actuals on a critical-path (CPM) basis
- Established a way of operating that links baseline and actuals
What It Means
A standard tool's value comes from adoption, not acquisition. By delivering supply and training as one flow, DT Solution laid a foundation for the Sungdong field to manage its own schedule. The longer and more variable the schedule — as in shipbuilding — the more the operator's skill decides the quality of schedule management.
